Entrepreneur Visa (Tier 1)

The Entrepreneur Tier 1 Visa is no longer available for applications. If you intend to launch a new business or manage an existing business in the UK, the Innovator visa or the Start-up Visa.
If you already are in the UK on a Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) visa, applications can be made under any one of the following categories – A Permanent Resident, an application for an extension on your visa or for your family members to join you.
You qualify for the above-mentioned applications if you have already been living in the UK continuously for a period of 5 years or if you can prove that you have contributed to the economy of the country through the active creation of employment opportunities over a period of 3 years.
Applications made when you are between 18 – 64 years must also be supported by meeting the criteria for the Life in the UK Test, which costs £50 in addition to meeting the English language requirements.
If you have a criminal record in the UK or in any other country, broken immigration laws or furnished inadequate or forged information in any sections of the application form or the supporting documentation that is necessary, your visa application may be rejected.

Continuous Residence

Continuous residence in the country is required for a Permanent Resident application. A 3-year stay in the UK is necessary in if you were establishing a new business or if you are able to prove that your business venture has created 10 new full-time jobs in the country or generated £5 million income.
If you are not able to meet the criteria given for the 3-year continuous residence in the country, you can apply for this visa if you are able to show a continuous residence over a 5-year timeframe with a Business or Innovator visa.
All visa applications must be made online and a normal timeframe of 6 months is required for the processing of Permanent Resident visas. The application must be supported by documentation as mandated, including your biometric information.

Dependents and Family Members

This application supports applications by your partner and children under 18 if they are eligible. Your partner must have a valid permit to stay within the country and you must be able to provide proof of the relationship you are in. This must be supported by further proof that you intend to continue living together and that you are financially viable enough to support yourselves and any dependents you may have without resorting to the use of the public funds of benefits provided by the government.
Your partner and dependents must be able to clear the Life in the UK test as well as qualify with an adequate command of the English language.

Qualifications for Children

If you have children applying with you on this application, they must possess prior permission to reside in the UK as your child, not being married or in any civil partnership and you have proof that they have been living with you as dependents.

Your child will be granted permission to settle in the UK only if you and your partner or your child’s other parent have already been living or settled legally in the UK. Other conditions which permit your child to make the application to settle in the UK include serious and persuasive family conditions, a compelling medical condition, you being the child’s sole surviving parent or if you have the complete obligation of supporting and bringing up your child.

For children above 16 years of age, a bank statement, a credit card bill, a driver’s license or a letter from their current school or university is proof enough of their residence address. These documents must be made within a 1-month period before the time of the application. Rent payment details must be furnished if they are not living with you. However, 3-month bank statements must be provided as evidence that you have been supporting your child even if they are not living with you.

Children over 18 years by the time you apply have adequate documentation of their proficiency with English and must pass the Life in the UK test.

The cost of the visa for each dependent or family member applying on your visa is £2,389


Visa Extensions

Entrepreneur Tier 1 visas can be extended before your existing visa expires. An extension is possible 6 months after you entered the county under a Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) visa. If you can prove that your business venture has created at least 2 full time jobs for a period of 12 months and that you have been successfully able to support yourself, the visa application is more adequately supported.

Your visa application can also be reinforced in terms of investment that you have made into 1 or more UK business and can show £200,000 or £50,000 in cash flow or based on the amount that as mentioned in your first visa application. Your visa extension includes all dependents, including children who are now 18 years of age.


Fee Structure

It costs £1,277 to extend this visa with an additional £19.20 for the biometric details that are to be furnished as part of this visa application.

All visa applications must be made online, providing all the documentation and evidence that is mandated to support your application. Any travel outside the UK during the visa processing timeline is strictly not allowed and could lead to a rejection of your visa application. what information to put in your application.

A timeframe of 8-weeks is required to process your application for a Permanent Resident visa. If the application has been duly made before the expiry of the existing visa, you will be allowed to stay in the country until the decision on your visa extension has been communicated to you.

You must apply online to extend a Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) visa if you are outside the UK during the time of your application.


When Applying To Change to A Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa

IA change to a Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) visa may be applied for if you are already in the UK on a Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) visa or if you have changed to a Start-up visa from a Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) visa for your second year

If you have the documentation to prove that you have spent an amount of £50,000 in funds in the UK through a viable business venture, you can make an application for a Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) visa, supported by all the documentation that is mandatory.

This visa gives you the permission to continue residing in the UK for a period of 3 years at the cost of £1,277 with an additional £19.20 for the processing of your biometric details to have your biometric information.

Every application must be made online and must be supported with all the mandatory documentation and details. Travel outside the country is strictly not allowed during the timeframe of the visa processing. Any violation of these regulations can result in a withdrawal of your visa application.



An 8-week timeframe is necessary for the processing of your visa with the provision to stay within the country until the visa is issued if you have ensured to apply before the expiry of your current visa.

An application for a change in visa to a Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) visa can be made with an existing Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) visa. Having a valid Start-up visa also makes it possible for to apply for this visa.


Dependents and Family Members

Your family members (‘dependents’) can join you if you’re in the UK on this visa (refer to the section in the Innovator Visa section)


Financial Criteria

It is essential for you to prove that you are adequately sufficient financially and can provide for and support yourself and all your dependents while in the UK. Each dependent must have a certain amount of money available to them – this is in addition to the £945 you must have to support yourself.


If you have been in the UK for less than 12 months, you must be able to provide evidence that an amount of £1,890 is available for each dependent on your visa. This amount is £630 for each dependent after you have been in the UK for over 12 months. This amount must reflect either in your bank account or in the dependent’s account for a minimum of three months prior to the date of application. For example, you must have £4,725 if you want to bring your partner and one child with you to the UK (£945 to support yourself plus £1,890 for your partner and £1,890 for your child).


Visa Fee Structure

It costs £1878 for each family member, with the additional £19.20 for the cost of the to have their biometric information. Super priority services can be opted for at an additional £800 if applying from within the UK, leading to an expedited timeline for the decision to be taken.


Dependents Applying Outside the UK

All applications must be made online, supported with the documentation that is mandated with the additional biometric information. If your child is over 18, they cannot apply if they are outside the UK. They can apply from inside the UK if they are already here as your dependent.


Dependents Applying In the UK on Their Own

Any dependents on your visa can make online applications as a dependent partner or a dependent child to extend or change their visas to stay with you if they’re already in the UK.

Family members with visitor visas cannot apply in the UK as your dependents.  All applications must be adequately supported with documentation and biometric details.

Any travel which entails leaving the country in the interim period when the visa applications are being processed is strictly not allowed and a breach of these regulations may lead to a rejection of the visa applications.
